The U.S. tire manufacturing industry bolsters the U.S. economy with well-paying jobs and economic output that ripples across the economy and helps sustain communities. USTMA member companies have invested billions of dollars and countless hours engineering safe, sustainable tires. Today’s tires grip the road better, are more fuel efficient, last longer and new designs and materials have enabled continual improvements and breakthroughs.

Powering the U.S. Economy

U.S. tire manufacturing has an annual economic footprint of $170.6 billion and is responsible for more than 291,000 U.S. jobs in manufacturing, distribution and retailing. The industry supports more than 510,000 additional U.S. jobs in supplier and induced activities, totaling more than 801,000 jobs nationwide. USTMA advances a sustainable tire manufacturing industry through thought leadership and a commitment to science‐based public policy advocacy. 2024 Tire Manufacturing Ambassadors

Tire Manufacturing Ambassadors

The USTMA Tire Manufacturing Ambassador Program brings representatives from its 12 member companies to Washington, D.C. each year to highlight important issues for the U.S. tire manufacturing sector, focusing on economic impact, infrastructure and sustainability. The ambassadors, representing various fields, including engineering, business, marketing and HR share their expertise in discussions with congressional offices to share firsthand how legislation can affect their work and communities.

Reducing Facility Emissions

USTMA tire manufacturing facilities primarily use natural gas, resulting in a lower greenhouse gas emission footprint compared to other manufacturing sectors. Additionally, tire manufacturers are adopting various strategies and technologies to enhance energy efficiency and further reduce CO2 emissions.
