Role Overview

The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA), the trade association representing the interests of U.S. tire manufacturers, is searching for a talented Public Affairs and Regulatory Affairs Intern to support USTMA’s strategic communications initiatives and USTMA’s environmental regulatory and sustainability advocacy. The Public Affairs and Regulatory Affairs Intern is a paid position based in Washington D.C. from June through August 2019 and reports to the Vice President of Environmental Health Safety and Sustainability and Senior Counsel and Vice President of Public Affairs. The intern who fills this position should expect to learn several important aspects of public affairs and environmental regulatory affairs within a trade association and will complete this internship with excellent relevant skills. The intern will assist the Vice Presidents with two core projects focused on the areas of tire manufacturing and sustainability.   

Responsibilities

  • Focused research on the area of tire manufacturing and sustainability
  • Assist with creation and execution of a social media strategy and development of associated content
  • Outreach to the organization’s member companies
  • Updates (press releases, one-pagers, tweets, other content) to the USTMA’s website
  • Assist with information collection and editing of our bi-monthly newsletter
  • Media monitoring and monitoring of social media
  • Writing of press releases and other materials
  • Assist with data and information collection
  • Assist with mailings and print production
  • Attend staff meetings, meetings with member companies, contractors and consultants 

Requirements 

  • Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Sustainability, or Public Policy majors preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of social media
  • Solid understanding of sustainability
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
