Christian Yates

Senior Environmental Specialist
Salem, Virginia Tire Manufacturing Plant

Yokohama Tire Corporation

Christian Yates started his tire-manufacturing career at Yokohama Tire as an entry level Environmental Coordinator in the Salem, Virginia Plant during the fall of 2013. Shortly after, in 2016, Christian quickly transitioned into a corporate role within Yokohama where he was promoted to a Senior Environmental Specialist role under Yokohama Corporation of North America (YCNA).

Christian and his wife of 11 years, Fallon, have two beautiful blonde hair, blue-eyed children. Eli Maverick, currently 7-years old, is full throttle into sports and already has a strong work ethic in everything he does. His little sister Mille, currently 3-years old, is just full throttle 24/7.

The Roanoke Valley has been home to Christian for the last 13 years after graduating from Bridgewater College in 2005. Prior to relocating to Salem with his college sweetheart, Christian grew up in the Shenandoah Valley in the small town of Strasburg, Virginia.

Upon graduating from Bridgewater with a BS in Biology and Environmental Science, Christian began his journey in the environmental arena by exploring multiple fields on the consulting side of the business. Christian’s first environmental field job landed him high in the sky on smoke stacks where he tested air emissions for clients all along the east coast. Once deciding to keep his feet on the ground, Christian spent the next seven years working with an environmental laboratory conducting an array of environmental services including ground/storm/waste water monitoring, biological evaluations, laboratory analytical work, and research and special projects. This path lead him to Yokohama Tire, as they were one of his clients.

Christian’s primary role within Yokohama is ensuring environmental compliance and maintaining an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) at the Salem Plant. In addition to these tasks, Christian also provides environmental, health and safety (EHS) support to all Yokohama facilities in North America as well as organizing multiple community stewardship activities within the local community.

Christian has always strived to instill a strong work ethic in all areas of his life without compromising his faith based core values. He leads by example through these strong values along with hard work and accountability at and away from work. Because of these attributes, Christian is recognized as a pivotal leader at work, home and throughout his local community.
